Apple today finally started selling their new official dock for Lightning-sporting iPhones. This is something people have been hoping and waiting for a long time after the last release back in September 2012. Apple never mention why it took so long to release this version but it is listed for $39 on the Apple Online store in the U.S. The dock is available in different countries though the prize may vary.
The estimated shipping dates vary from 1-3 business days. The dock is compatible will all the phones ranging from iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus along with all the fifth-generation iPod touch.
It is for now expected that the device should work with the upcoming devices as well, unlike the previous Apple dock, this one features a freestanding Lightning connector which doesn’t require the device to fit in a particular slot.
The Apple dock continues the original 30-pin dock which was previously sold. The new device has a smaller form factor. Another important part of the feature is that the dock features a 3.5mm headphones port alongside with the rear for audio out that enables music and pod casts from an iPhone which is one major advantage over the third-party rivals.
In the reviews of this Lightning Dock it also worked perfectly well for both charging and syncing with iPad Air, iPad Air 2 and iPad minis. The docks couldn’t connect with cases with really thick bottoms and also began to tip over iPad Airs thick cases.
The device is of a pleasant shape and supports quite a few devices but one of the few potential deal breakers with the iPhone Dock is its limited incompatibility with certain cases along with price point. If one prefers an Apple design, it’s a good recommendation.
